BUILDING UP THE IMMUNE SYSTEM FOR POTENTIAL ATTACKS

"Strengthen The Immune System"

It's not fall or winter (the seasons when cold, flu, bacterias, and viruses runs rapidly).  But, some people are being sickened at this present time with new viruses that has no cure or treatments.  I complied a list of alternatives that can help those who has a weakened immune system.  If you have been sick at least twice in a year, then you need to strengthen that immune system.  Those who has not (lucky ones), can take heed as well.  As a reminder the digestive system is 70% of your immune system.

KEY DEFENSE STRATEGIES

  1. PROBIOTICS - having a healthy gut is imperative for a good immune system.  The good bacteria can help fight infections.  A probiotic supplement can significantly boost the body's ability to fight.  Recommend 14 billion - 25 billion multi strain of probiotics that includes B. lactis.  Alternative from the pill supplement is the liquid.  Kefir liquid probiotics is good (see previous posting on kefir and probiotics).
  2. VITAMIN C - prevents colds in children and adults.  Reduces the length of infections.
  3. ZINC - shorten the lengthen of infections.  Alternative from taking pill supplement is zinc lozenges.
  4. ECHINACEA - herb helps prevent and reduce symptoms of infections by 58 percent.  Alternative from taking the pill supplement is the tea.
  5. GOLDENSEAL - known as a herbal antibiotic and immune system enhancer.  Anti-inflammatory and astringent properties.  Alternative to the pill supplement is the tea.
  6. RAW HONEY - anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties.  Raw manuka honey is best.  (see previous posting on Manuka Honey).
  7. LEMON - considered as a blood purifier.  Excellent flavonoids and vitamin C.
  8. VITAMIN D3 -  actively fight diseases and germs.  Prevention 5000 IU of vitamin D3 daily for adults and up to 1,200 IU daily for children.  Alternative to the pill supplement is the liquid.  Please read labels.  (see previous postings on Vitamin D3)
  9. ELDERBERRY - anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-viral, and antioxidant properties.
  10. TURMERIC - anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties.  (see previous posting on turmeric)
  11. GREEN TEA - high antioxidants.  Drink more than 1 cup a day.
  12. GARLIC - 1 raw crushed/smashed clove a day.  If you cannot eat it by itself mix it in tomatoes or avocado or with other herbs rosemary, thyme, and oregano in olive oil. (see previous posting on garlic)
  13. Avoid touching public areas.  Wash hands thoroughly, cover your mouth when coughing, and sneezing.
  14. *update OIL OF OREGANO - protect against bacteria, helps immune system fight off viruses, fungi, and parasites.  Can be uses as a natural insect repellent and antibacterial hand sanitizer.  Alternative to the pill supplement is the liquid.

I COME AS A WHOLE BUT BREAK INTO PIECES WHO AM I?

"Garlic"
"I literally fall into pieces when I'm loved"
Garlic is the member of the lily or Allium Sativum family including onions and leeks.  It is a vegetable but known to others as a herb or spice.  Garlic is used either as medicine or food.  Herbalist and folk healers have used garlic for over thousand of years to treat diseases.  For example,

  • Ancient Egyptian healers used garlic to build physical strength,
  • Greeks used garlic for a laxative,
  • Chinese used garlic to lower blood pressure,
  • Indians used garlic to strengthen the heart and keep blood fluid,
  • and during the middle ages garlic was hung on doors at night to repel evil spirits.

Did you know...

Garlic was featured in ancient medical textbooks from China, India, Egypt, Greece, and Rome.  There are over 500 pages on the study of garlic done by researchers and scientists.  The benefits of garlic and natural chemical compounds are published in medical journals.  Garlic contains compounds that act as a powerful natural antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal agents.  It's active ingredient is "allicin" which transforms into organosulfurs.  Garlic can zap viruses faster from your body.

"Eat me daily"

Japanese research suggests eating one or two raw garlic cloves daily can boost your immune system up by 40%.  Garlic is packed with 70 different sulfur compounds that has the ability to fight off:
  • High blood pressure
  • Viruses, infections, germs
  • Prevent cancers - such as, colon, stomach, endometrial, prostate, lung, brain, etc.
  • Maintain a healthy cholesterol level (fight off atherosclerosis)
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Gout
  • Stress
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Respiratory issues
  • Fungual infections
  • Food poisoning (neutralize Helicobacter pylori)
  • Thin blood
  • Lower risk of heart attacks
  • Prevents colds
  • Aging skin
  • Oral candidiasis
  • Alopecia areata

Even though garlic has super powers, it does have minor drawbacks:
  • Bad breath
  • Can cause indigestion in some people if eaten raw
  • Can flare up acid reflux in some people
  • Can irritate the skin and mucous membranes

But on the other hand, garlic is an excellent source of the following minerals and vitamins that are essential for optimum health:
  • Selenium (an important antioxidant that fights free radicals and protects DNA cells)
  • Manganese
  • Zinc
  • Iron
  • Calcium
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin B6

Today garlic flavors almost every cuisine in the world.

"I'm beneficial crushed/chopped and sitting for 15 minutes before using"

Above all garlic is super beneficial to our bodies.  Try adding it daily to your healthy diet.  Garlic brings  a nice aroma flavor to all dishes.

Take time to enjoy "the stinking rose."

Fighting Germs

Winter is here!
The time of year to bring out the hats and scarfs! Better yet double up on the vitamin C.  We all know this is the time when germs are spread.  Colds are passed around from family members and strangers.  Do not waste time in protecting yourself and family from it.  Here is a list of items I like to keep in my home to help build my immune system.
  • Vitamin C 1,000mg (if you take the chewables make sure you swish water in your mouth for about 2min. to protect your enamel)- suggestion Emergen-C packets are good- just add water and drink.
  • Echinacea tea
  • Zinc
  • Lemon or Limes
  • Honey
  • Fresh Garlic
  • Fresh Ginger
  • Cinnamon (ceylon)
  • Turmeric
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Oregano
  • Sage
  • Thyme
  • Pro-Biotic Acidophilus
  • Vitamin B-complex
  • Coconut Water
The above herbs/spices, honey, and coconut water has powerful anti-virtual properties.  The fresh herbs are more potent than the dried herbs.  As you saw from my previous post I had thyme, basil, oregano, and rosemary.  I made teas and cooked with it.
The main item that is very important I hope you been taking is the  Pro-biotic Acidophilus.  This is the "good bacteria" that protects your intestinal tract.  If your intestinal tract is out of whack, then most likely you have more of the bad bacteria and you are more accessible in getting infections.  Just think 70% of your immune system is in the digestive tract.  This "good bacteria" is not only found in yogurts but in some food products and vitamins.  It is found in liquid or capsules form.  I take the capsules form that is dairy free.  It must be stored in your refrigerator.
There are other precautions to take, such as, covering your mouth when coughing, and not touching public items (door knobs- especially bathroom doors and faucets, poles on bus and trains) use a tissue and carry hand sanitizers.  Thousands of germs are breathing on them.  Especially the bathrooms either at work, school, or public places due to some people do not wash their hands with soap after using the bathroom.  Running water on your hands without soap for less than 2 seconds is not washing your hands!  It takes 20 seconds to thoroughly wash your hands with soap to kill germs.
